The problem was that - not having worked much with my DNS server before - I couldn't get this to work. Simply adding an entry in the hosts file saying "127.0.0.1 mail.example.com" doesn't do the job, because my mailserver (Mercury32) still resolves the external IP for the MX of example.com. Can you please let me know how to add an MX record to the hosts file?
